Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:
USA Pears arrived in Vietnam in the last week of February. Importers showed interest in this crop; however, due to the difficult economic conditions and current market situation, most importers decided to temporarily suspend further imports for the remainder of the season. Product sampling programs were successfully implemented at three major retail chains (Co.opmart, AEON, and Lotte), helping to maintain consumer presence and awareness.
Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:
There were no significant logistics disruptions reported during this period. However, rising fuel prices have contributed to increased transportation and overall import costs, indirectly impacting pricing strategies and demand.
Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:
The market mainly imported smaller sizes (100, 110, and 135 count), with 100 % grades U.S. No.1 Overall quality was acceptable, but not outstanding compared to competing origins.
Update on the Competition in the Market:
USA pears continue to face strong competition from Chinese pears, which dominate traditional markets; Korean pears, known for their premium positioning and high consumer trust; and South African pears, which offer good quality at competitive prices. Overall, these competitors provide more appealing flavor profiles and are perceived by Vietnamese consumers
Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:
Vietnam’s economy is being affected by global economic pressures. Rising fuel prices have increased overall costs across the supply chain. Consumers are becoming more cautious with spending, prioritizing essential goods and value-for-money products. Additionally, a stronger USD has made imported products more expensive, further impacting demand.
Other Brief Comments:
Despite ongoing challenges, marketing and promotional activities for USA pears have continued throughout the season, particularly through online and media channels. These campaigns have successfully attracted consumer attention and engagement. The overall brand image of USA pears is gradually improving in the market. With continued efforts, there is strong potential for better performance in the next season.
