Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:

The first container of USA Pears arrived at the end of November. According to the importer, their stock has already been booked by several retailers even before the shipment’s arrival. They also reported that they plan to order the second container once the first shipment is sold out and have requested support from PBNW Indonesia when the second container arrives. For other importers who are planning to bring in USA Pears, they mentioned that they have already discussed the possibility with their shippers but are still waiting for price quotations. PBNW Indonesia has informed PBNW HQ about this matter and will provide a list of interested importers so that PBNW HQ can share it with the industry sales desks.

Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:

FAS USDA in Jakarta reported that Indonesian President Mr. Prabowo is planning to fly to the USA to sign a trade deal agreement between Indonesia and the USA. Many importers are eagerly awaiting the realization of this agreement, especially the implementation of zero tariffs on U.S. fruit imports. Importers believe that the zero tariff could significantly impact the price of U.S. fruits, making them more competitive with fruits from other regions.

Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:

As suggested by PBNW Indonesia, the importers are interested in bringing three varieties of USA Pears: Red Anjou, Green Anjou, and Bosc, with sizes 70–80 and US1 grade.

Update on the Competition in the Market:

Pears from China, with their many varieties, remain the strongest competition. Other competitors include South Africa’s Packham and Forelle pears, South Korea’s Singo pears, and Australia’s Red Angel pears. Other competing fruits include mandarins and grapes from China, grapes from California, and locally grown mangoes.

Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:

This week, the IDX Composite reached the 8,600 level, and as predicted by Indonesian Finance Minister Mr. Purbaya, it is expected to hit 9,000 by the end of the year. This will impact Indonesia’s economic growth and likely strengthen consumer buying behavior.
