Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:
The importers are happy with he quality of the product landed, the fruit is ripening properly, a major fear from the past season. some remarks on the "looks" of some US1 grades, slightly too many scars from wind. Bartletts worked just fine, some importers did mistake the grade share, they should not have purchased the amount of Fancy grade they did, probably a pricing issue.
Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:
There was one vessel that delayed its docking in Santos Port, making the journey too long, 59 days instead of 30 days. The fruit has arrived still with good pressure, the frear was with Bartletts, but they just presented some color change but will fair pressure, no losses were mentioned at this point to me! Anjous and Red anjous arrived well.
Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:
The market could have imported some more Bartletts and sooner, but pricing and some environmental uncertainty did hold the start of the shipments. The mood is that the market is ready to recover some of the volume of the past in the seasons to come. The fruit is great and deliver very well.
Update on the Competition in the Market:
Argentina stayed in the market with Packham's, all sorts of quality, very low volume, so this eased the price difference a little bit. Europe is present in the market with Bartletts too, the quality is not so great, sizing towards small. Some Conference from Belgium also available, at the same 2 retailers.
Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:
The actual Government is preparing for the presidential elections in October 2026, so every move they make or plan is geared to the pools over the election. Little has been done so far economically wise. The political turmoil is big and lots of uncertainties on who will be the main competition to the actual president is very unclear.
